Rankings and Recognitions

We like to recognize all the things that make Greeley a thriving community: student athletic and academic achievements; positive partnerships between businesses and schools; national rankings; and local, state and national awards earned by our non-profit, civic, business and government workers.

These recognitions aren't a pat on the back from locals to locals; rather, they're awards and kudos given from outside the community to those in Greeley who deserve it.

Mark-Jones-WEBLaw Enforcement Executive Development FBI Academy
Congratulations to Greeley Police Chief Mark Jones for his selection to participate in the Law Enforcement Executive Development at the FBI Academy.  Chief Jones will join executives from across the country to learn and share best practices.

Colorado School of Public Health - 23rd in the Nation

U.S. News and World Report have ranked the graduate program for the Colorado School of Public Health, 23rd in the nation out of Master of Public Health schools and programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.  The Colorado School of Public Health consists of three partner institutions: Colorado State University, the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, and the University of Northern Colorado.

Greeley Central High School Boettcher Foundation Scholarship
Congratulations to Greeley Central’s Taylor Henderson and Frontier Academy’s Sam Stoltz for being awarded the prestigious Boettcher Foundation scholarship.  The
scholarship provides full-tuition at any Colorado four-year college or university, as well as fees, a book allowance and an annual stipend for living expenses. They will also have the opportunity to attend several events for the entire Boettcher Scholar community throughout the year. Taylor and Sam are the 20th and 21st Boettcher recipients for SD6 since 2007. 

Frontier Academy: 2019 United State Academic Decathlon State Title
Kudos to Frontier Academy students for winning the 2019 United States Academic Decathlon Colorado state title.  The decathlon has ten categories of completion: art history science, language, and literature, math, social science, interview, speech, music, essay, and economics.  This year, each category addressed the 1960s.  They will now head to the national academic decathlon competition.

University of Northern Colorado: Damon Runyon Award
University of Northern Colorado journalism and media studies major, Ben Shumate, is one of six students from across the state to receive the Damon Runyon Award from The Denver Press Club.

Greeley-Evans School District 6: Six Awarded Daniels Scholarship

Six Greeley-Evans School District 6 seniors will receive the prestigious Daniels Scholarship. Paid for through the Daniels Fund, these scholarships cover four years of tuition and fees, room and board, books, and miscellaneous educational expenses and are based on the recipient's character, leadership qualities, and commitment to contributing to the community. The District 6 Daniels Scholarship recipients for 2019 are:

  • Abigail Joyce Hubbard, Early College Academy
  • Darling Michelle Perez Ramos, Greeley Central High School
  • Ashton Marcus Kerwin, Tomas Gabriel Martinez, and Daniel Rodriguez, Northridge High School
  • Samantha Ruby Montalvo Blanco, University High School

BizWest Women of Distinction: Education / Real Estate, Construction & Development
Congratulations to Greeley-Evans School District Superintendent Dr. Deirdre Pilch and Cheri Witt-Brown of the Greeley-Weld Habitat for Humanity for being named BizWest Women of Distinction.  Dr. Pilch was recognized for her work in the education category.  Cheri received honors in the Real Estate, Construction, and Development category.

University of Northern Colorado: 2018 Self Direct Achievement Award
Congratulations to Dave Nalley and the UNC Facilities Management team for winning Xcel Energy's "2018 Self Direct Achievement Award" on April 2nd for the most energy saved in self-directed programs. In just electricity alone, Dave and the team reduced CO2 by 1,394 metric tons! Way to go!

Colorado Sports Hall of Fame: University of Northern Colorado
Once a champion, always a champion. Longtime state wrestling icon Bob Smith, a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference 115-pound champion in 1958 while competing at what now is the University of Northern Colorado, has been inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.  After UNC he coached at Wray High School for 33 years winning 10 state championships and was head of the state’s wrestling coaches association.

Excellence & Innovation Award: East Colorado Business Development Center
Greeley-based East Colorado Business Development Center has earned the region and state Small Business Development Excellence and Innovation Award.  The East Colorado Small Business Development Center offers business consulting and training that maximizes the economic potential of entrepreneurs throughout eastern Colorado.

University of Northern Colorado - Basketball NCAA Slam-Dunk Contest

University of Northern Colorado basketball standout, Jordan Davis, placed second at the Great Clips CASS Slam-Dunk Contest during the Final Four festivities.
