West Side Development
Project Overview
The Water Valley Company has expressed interest in working with the City of Greeley to evaluate the viability, feasibility and public benefit of a partnership on the potential development of a mixed-use, transit-oriented, entertainment district development in West Greeley.
The project is roughly bounded to the south by Highway 34 and to the north by highway 257, between County Road 17 and Highway 257.
The project would include a new arena and ice center, a transit center, new opportunities for retail, lodging (including a water park hotel), and mixed-income housing. The arena would become home to the Colorado Eagles professional ice hockey team. The Eagles compete in the American Hockey League (AHL), the top minor league of the National Hockey League (NHL).
The City of Greeley is carefully considering this opportunity as it has the potential to align with our community's values and economic development goals. If pursued, the project could create a regional destination that enhances connectivity, generates new revenue, and supports local businesses, positioning Greeley as a regional leader.
Project Status
At the City Council meeting on 7/30, members of Council unanimously authorized the City Manager to sign a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding to pursue due diligence on a potential partnership with The Water Valley Company for a new development on the West side of Greeley.
If preliminary work shows the project is viable and beneficial, the Parties intend to negotiate a definitive PPP Agreement. Water Valley anticipates submitting the results of the research and analysis conducted as outlined in the MOU in late October. At that point, city staff and Council will review all materials and conduct further analysis before presenting findings to Council in early 2025.
