Colorado Women of Influence Foundation: 2019 Women of Vision GalaThe
Colorado Women of Influence Foundation recognized its 12 Women of Vision at their annual gala event. Winners included Dr. Debbie Baker of Greeley, who retired after 28 years in Air Force, attained her doctorate in counseling and developed Greeley’s first grief center, and Floris “Flo” Mikkelson of Greeley, a lifetime advocate for seniors and a tireless volunteer with Greeley/Weld Senior Foundation, Weld County Area Agency on Aging Senior Nutrition Committee and the Senior Center Advisory Committee.
University of Northern Colorado: Student-Athletes Win in the ClassroomUNC student-athletes get it done on the field, on the court, and in the classroom. UNC Swimmers Petra Kis and Maddy Moore were named honorable mentioned Scholar All-America by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America. Men’s golf duo Li Chen and Nick Sharp earned Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars honors by the Golf Coaches Association of America. And the UNC Women’s Volleyball team, the whole team, were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Team All-Academic Honors with a cumulative team GPA of 3.7.
Greeley West Graduate Selected for NASA-Funded ProjectCongratulations to Greeley West graduate Samuel Diaz for his recent selection to work on a NASA-funded project to send a satellite to the sun. He will join a small team of engineering students through the Colorado Space Grant Consortium to work on a three-year project developing instruments for the ‘Polarimeter to Unify the Corona and Heliosphere’ mission that will study the origins of solar wind and how it affects Earth.
