5th in Job and Economy Growth: WalletHub 25 Fastest-Growing Cities in the US
Greeley has been ranked 5th in job and economy growth and 23rd in the nation on WalletHub’s ‘25 fastest-growing cities in the U.S. The study analyzed 515 cities of different population sizes based on 17 metrics that measure a city’s performance over a seven-year period. The parameters include unemployment rate decrease, population growth, and median household income growth, among others.
Ex: Gold Medal Finalists & Columbine Award
Greeley’s Culture, Parks, and Recreation Department have been racking up recognitions. They were was honored to be a finalist two years in a row for the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) Gold Medal Class III Award for populations 75,001-150,000, which recognizes excellence in the field of parks and recreation nationwide.
They also received the Columbine Award at the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association annual conference. The Columbine Award recognized Greeley Recreation’s Youth Enrichment Programs for their focus on academic achievement, parent engagement, and risk management by creating partnerships, implementing technology, and programmatic changes that positively influenced youth.
SD6 Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship Program: National Registered Apprenticeship
The District 6 Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship Program, in partnership with Vestas Blades America, has been selected as a National Registered Apprenticeship Program through the United States Department of Labor., becoming the first of its kind in Colorado. Vestas currently hosts 26 District 6 apprentices. These students are mentored and training while earning a paycheck. They are also allowed to advance to other manufacturing positions.
UNC Women’s Soccer: Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the Year
University of Northern Colorado women’s soccer player, Maddie Barkow, has been named Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Big Sky First Team.
Greeley Police Officer Wins History Channel “Forged in Fire”
Congratulations to Greeley Police Officer John McNerney for winning episode two of season seven of History Channel’s reality show “Forged in Fire” after forging a tribute to General Patton’s saber. The show documents a series of timed challenges involving metal crafting metals into items like swords, tools, and more. John is also a nationally recognized K-9 handler.
Weld Werks: The 50 Best American Breweries of the Decade
Weld Werks has been listed on Paste Magazine’s “The 50 Best American breweries of the 2010s” list earning a respectable 35th for their first time on the list.
University of Northern Colorado: Voter Turnout Recognition
University of Northern Colorado students are letting their voices be heard. Fifty-three percent of UNC students voted in the 2018 midterm election, above the national average, resulting in a platinum campus designation from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, a national, nonpartisan initiative that supports an effort to increase turnout.
Frontier Academy Golf: Class 3A All-State Team
Congratulations to Frontier Academy’s Max Noffsinger for being named to the Class 3A All-State team for Golf. This is Max’s third year qualifying for the State competition.
University of Northern Colorado: Wrestler of the Week
UNC wrestler Dalton Robertson has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week. The award is only the second for Northern Colorado since the team joined the Big 12 in 2015.
Northridge Unified Bowling Team: State Champions
Congratulations to the Northridge High School unified bowling team for winning their second state championship in a row, beating out 39 other teams. Unified bowling became an officially sanctioned sport by the Colorado High School Activities Association earlier this year, which means their first state win is considered unofficial, but it’s a win none-the-less. Teams are comprised of athletes with a disability paired with another student from their school. Congratulations to Northridge and to the other local teams from West and Central that also participated.
University of Northern Colorado: Women’s Soccer – Big Sky Champions
University of Northern Colorado Women’s Soccer team took the 2019 Big Sky Tournament Championship after defeating Eastern Washington 1-0. This is the second conference tournament title for the Bears since the program began. The win also qualified the team for their second trip to the NCAA Division 1 Tournament. Congratulations lady Bears!

Frontier Academy Boys Cross Country Team: Class 3A State Champions
Kudos to the Frontier Boys Cross Country team who won the Class 3A state title…not bad for a group that had been dubbed as the underdog. The team dominated with four runners in the top 25. And there’s even more good news, Coach Brett Shanklin was named the Colorado High School Activities Association Class 3A Coach of the Year. Way to go, Wolverines!
