Water Conservation

The City of Greeley is proud to have a long history of water stewardship here in northern Colorado. Since 1907, we’ve provided safe, high-quality water supplies for our residents while ensuring a reliable supply for the future. One of the many ways we’re safeguarding your water supply is through water conservation. In fact, Greeley offers one of the most robust water conservation programs in Colorado.

With just over 13 inches of rainfall per year, Greeley is considered a semi-arid climate. This means local water supplies are scarce and must be used very wisely. To help customers save water indoors as well as outdoors, Greeley provides a wide range of water conservation programs and services that benefit a variety of water users.

Water Efficiency Plan

The City of Greeley’s Water Efficiency Plan is a roadmap of strategic objectives and water conservation programs to ensure future water supplies. The Water Efficiency Plan was approved by the Water and Sewer Board, Planning Commission and City Council in 2022. The main objectives of the plan are to maximize widespread efficiency in all indoor water use, set goals for more resilient landscapes, and educate customers on water use goals. It will provide direction on how to advance water conservation efforts and build citywide capacity to:

  • Create efficiencies and consistencies among policies, plans, projects, and programs
  • Maximize cost-saving opportunities
  • Create goals with clear measurements for success

City of Greeley Approves Water Utility Rates for 2025

Release Date:
Dec 19, 2024

Rates Increase Helps Address Stormwater Funding to Protect Our Community

GREELEY, Colo. — Starting January 1, 2025, Greeley residents will experience an average monthly utility bill increase of $15.02 for water, wastewater and stormwater services. The increase in rates enables the city to continue providing high-quality services to its customers while protecting the community from the impacts of severe weather.

Greeley’s Water and Sewer Board approved the new rates for water and wastewater this week. City Council approved the rate increase for stormwater when it finalized its 2025 budget in October.

Average Monthly Rate Increases

  • Water: $4.63

  • Sewer: $1.70

  • Stormwater: $8.69

Stormwater Rate Increase

The City of Greeley is working to improve its stormwater system to protect the community from the impacts of severe weather. Recent storms, like the one in May 2024, show how important it is to invest in stormwater infrastructure, which has not had enough funding in the past.

The May 2024 storm caused over $1.45 million in damage to properties. The rate increase for stormwater will help protect lives and property. Over the next 5-7 years, the city will be able to complete more projects faster, resulting in improved stormwater drainage that will protect lives and property.

Financial Assistance

City leaders know that the increase in water utility rates could be a challenge for some residents, and we are here to help. The City of Greeley offers two programs to assist low-income families with their utility bills: the Low Income & Food Tax (LIFT) program and the Utility Program (UP).

Residents can apply for both programs with one easy application at greeleygov.com/LIFT-UP

  • Low Income and Food Tax rebate (LIFT) - $100 per qualified person each year

  • Utility Program (UP) - $150 credit toward your household water bill
