GREELEY, Colo. — The City of Greeley is working on two important water system projects this spring. Both projects are aimed at making sure residents have clean, safe and reliable drinking water while reducing the risk of future problems. These improvements will also help Greeley respond quickly to water system emergencies.
Two projects along 23rd Avenue will affect traffic over the course of the month of March.
Water System Upgrade at 23rd Avenue and 25th Street
Project Dates: March 3-28, 2025
Work Hours: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays
Location: Intersection of 23rd Avenue and 25th Street
The city is separating two pressure zones that are currently connected. Crews are also adding a valve to a transmission main. The project allows the city to quickly shut off or reroute water in case of an emergency.
Impact: Traffic will be impacted on 23rd Avenue south of Reservoir Road for most of March. During this time, only westbound traffic will be allowed on 25th Street at 23rd Avenue. There will be no eastbound access to 25th Street from 23rd Avenue. Drivers should follow posted detours to avoid the construction area.
Water System Resiliency Improvement at 23rd Avenue and 27th Street
Project Dates: March 17-22, 2025
Work Hours: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays
Location: Intersection of 23rd Avenue and 27th Street
The city will install two new valves in the water system during Spring Break. These valves will help the city quickly shut off or reroute water in case of an emergency. This improvement will make the water system more reliable and better able to handle future issues.
Impact: Traffic will be affected at the intersection of 23rd Avenue and 27th Street. All southbound traffic on 23rd Avenue will be detoured at Reservoir Road. Northbound traffic on 23rd Avenue will be restricted to one lane between 27th Street and Reservoir Road.
Why This Matters
While traffic changes can be inconvenient, these projects are important for making Greeley’s water system stronger and more dependable. The Water and Sewer Department appreciates your patience as we work to improve the city’s infrastructure.
